Timothy Hacsi

Timothy Hacsi is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Massachusetts Boston. He earned his PhD in History from the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in History from Oberlin College. Following graduate studies, he held postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Chicago (Children’s Policy) and Harvard University (Spencer Fellowship) before joining UMass Boston.

Research Focus: His expertise centers on 19th-20th century American public policy with specialized focus areas including:

• Historical development of child/family welfare systems
• Evolution of educational reform and policy debates
• Poverty alleviation strategies and institutional responses
• Intersections of social policy and marginalized communities
