Timothy Gates is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Michigan State University’s College of Engineering. With over 20 years of research experience, his work focuses on innovative traffic control devices, road safety, statistical methods, and transportation economics. He has led or co-led over 100 grants totaling $15M from agencies like MDOT and FHWA. Dr. Gates is a licensed Michigan Professional Engineer and former chair of the TRB Committee on Traffic Control Devices (ACP55). He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin (2007), and M.S. and B.S. degrees from Michigan State University (2000 and 1999).
