Peter Savolainen is the Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) and an MSU Foundation Professor at Michigan State University’s College of Engineering. His research focuses on road user behavior, traffic safety, and the operational impacts of roadway design and traffic characteristics. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles and contributed to critical areas like naturalistic driving research, crash-injury severity analysis, and countermeasure evaluation.
