Tim Munro is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Queensland and Griffith University's Queensland Conservatorium. A distinguished flutist and composer, he is celebrated for winning the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance with the ensemble eighth blackbird, which he co-directed from 2006–2015. His career spans performance, teaching, and creative projects, including a 2017 large-scale Chicago-Brisbane collaboration involving 1,000 performers.
Education: Bachelor of Music (Honours) from the UQ School of Music. Research interests include contemporary music performance, chamber music innovation, and the intersection of music with interdisciplinary creativity. He has taught at over 50 universities in the U.S. and Australia, emphasizing pedagogical approaches to modern musical practices.
Notable projects include curating music festivals, commissioning works from composers like Dave Reminick and Chris Cerrone, and writing for Limelight Magazine and the Sydney Symphony. As Principal Flute of the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra, he maintains active orchestral and chamber music engagements worldwide.
Awards: 2016 Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance (eighth blackbird’s performance of Steve Reich’s *Double Sextet*).
