Tim Lloyd is Professor of Economics in the Business School at Bournemouth University, appointed in July 2015 after serving as Associate Professor at the University of Nottingham. His research focuses on agricultural and food economics, particularly pricing, diet and health, and competition in the food industry.
His educational background includes a PhD in Economics from the University of Nottingham (1992) and a BSc (Hons) in Agricultural Economics from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne (1986).
Professor Lloyd's research centers on agricultural economics, food economics, and applied econometrics. Current work analyzes price transmission, food inflation, and food-health links using retail scanner data. He collaborates with researchers at Exeter, Liverpool Xi'an Jiaotong, Southampton, and others on projects funded by DEFRA, the European Commission, and the National Institute for Health and Medical Research. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals including Zero Hunger and Good Health.
Recent publications (2023-2025) address food insecurity, emotional carryover effects, animal disease impacts, and food consumption patterns. The research shows strong empirical focus on food price dynamics, retailer behavior, and effects of external shocks like pandemics and oil volatility.

Professor Lloyd has supervised PhD students including Adam Witt and Olivia Placzek (in progress), and Peter Howard-Jones and Hong Thai Le (completed). His research is funded by DEFRA, European Commission, FAO, and NIHMR grants including 'Wessex DIET' and 'Climate, Fossil Fuels and UK Food Prices'.
He leads the Food and Health Economics Honeycomb within Bournemouth's Centre for Sustainable and Socially Responsible Consumption, focusing on interdisciplinary research in food systems and health economics.
