Paul Dobson is a Professor of Business Strategy and Public Policy at the University of East Anglia’s (UEA) Norwich Business School. He previously served as Head of Norwich Business School (2010–2020) and interim Pro-Vice Chancellor for the Social Sciences Faculty (2022–2024). With degrees from the University of London, he has held academic roles at Loughborough, Nottingham, and St Andrews Universities.
His research focuses on competition policy, food retailing, public health, and pricing strategies. Key areas include analyzing retail buyer power, alcohol policy, and food pricing dynamics. He advises governments, international bodies (e.g., OECD, European Parliament), and corporations on regulatory and strategic issues.
Recent work includes projects on alcohol policy modeling (MRC-funded), food retail pricing (ESRC-funded), and energy storage innovation (EU Horizon 2020). His notable publications address price promotions, lockdown alcohol consumption, and the impact of mergers on airline fares. He has also contributed to media discussions on food affordability and policy reforms.
Awards include the Agricultural Economics Society Essay Prize. His advisory roles span the American Antitrust Institute, ESRC Peer Review College, and the Norwich Institute for Healthy Ageing (NIHA).
