Stephen Chadd

Dr. Stephen Chadd is a Senior Lecturer in Agri-Food Business at the Royal Agricultural University (RAU), where he previously served as Dean of the School of Agriculture (2010–2014) and Assistant/Deputy Dean (2005–2010). He holds a BSc from the University of Wales, a PhD from the University of Nottingham, and professional certifications in education (Cert Ed), biology (CBiol), and science (MSB).

His research focuses on agri-food business systems, animal nutrition (particularly pigs and poultry), food safety, and animal welfare. Key areas include risk assessment frameworks for farm food safety, poultry production sustainability, and curriculum development for agricultural education. He has conducted extensive international consultancy work, including DEFRA-funded pig welfare studies with the University of Bristol, and has advised organizations in Barbados, Iraq (FAO/IFIF programs), Libya (UNESCO), Nigeria (UNESCO), and Mozambique (African Century Company).

Chadd is a former Vice-President of the European Association of Animal Production (EAAP) Pig Commission, chairing annual sessions and organizing conferences. His international engagements include invited lectures on pig nutrition in Brazil, the USA, and Canada, and a keynote presentation on future poultry nutrition trends at the FAO conference in Bangkok (2007). He has also supervised PhD students and contributed to academic institutional reviews and developmental engagement initiatives.

His teaching spans livestock science, nutrition performance physiology, and agri-food systems, including roles at Qingdao Agricultural University and Shandong Agricultural University. His work emphasizes practical applications in food safety protocols, supply chain optimization, and ethical production practices.
