Tim Jackson

Tim Jackson is Director of the Centre for the Understanding of Sustainable Prosperity (CUSP) and Professor of Sustainable Development at the University of Surrey. His work spans ecological economics, post-growth economics, and societal well-being, focusing on redefining prosperity and economic systems.

• Education: PhD in Physics (St Andrews), MA in Mathematics (Cambridge), MA in Philosophy (Western Ontario), with honorary degrees from Brighton and Louvain
• Awards: Hillary Laureate (2016), Eric Zencey Prize (2022)

Research Focus: Circular economy principles (since 1990s), sustainable consumption, systemic inequality, and the ethical foundations of a care economy. His The Care Economy (2025) extends this manifesto globally.

Publications include seminal works like Prosperity without Growth (2009/2017), Material Concerns (1996), and Post Growth (2021). Collaborative work with Peter Victor explores stock-flow-consistent ecological macroeconomic models.
