He joined the university in 2024 and holds academic affiliations with the ESRC-funded Centre for the Understanding of Sustainable Prosperity (CUSP) and the Centre on Labour, Sustainability and Global Production (CLaSP). His research focuses on ecological political economy, the political economy of work and welfare, and the governance of financial sector risks associated with climate change.
Dr Taylor's education includes a PhD in Politics and International Studies from the University of Warwick, alongside MAs in Politics and International Political Economy from the same institution, and a BA in International Relations from the University of Sussex. He has been a Research Fellow at CUSP since 2018 and serves on the Sustainability Research Committee of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), advising on climate-related financial risks.
His research interests span three core areas: (1) ecological risk management in financial systems, (2) historical and contemporary labor market governance, and (3) the political economy of social reproduction including housing and care systems. Emerging work explores sustainable agri-food systems and the political economy of home.
Teaching responsibilities include modules on firm governance, risk management, and institutional contexts. He supervises PhD students in his research areas and has served as PGR convenor. His publications bridge political economy theory with empirical analysis of austerity policies, financialization, and sustainability challenges.
