Professor Tim Hall is a leading academic in criminology and human geography at the University of Winchester's Department of Social Sciences, part of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. His research focuses on the spatial dimensions of crime, cybercrime, organized crime, and globalization. He has authored influential books such as The Economic Geographies of Organized Crime (2018) and co-edited An Introduction to Human Geography (2016).
Prof. Hall's work explores how economic conditions and technological development intersect with crime, notably in studies like his analysis of cybercrime in Armenia. He has held leadership roles, including former Head of the Department of Applied Social Sciences, and is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy since 2020. His research spans pedagogical innovation, regional cybercrime frameworks, and the illicit economy's global impacts. Key publications include analyses of cybercrime in West Africa and frameworks linking IT development with poverty.
His articles address topics such as betting shop geographies, drug policy reform, and photographic research methods. Hall's interdisciplinary approach bridges criminology, geography, and public policy, with funding from the British Academy/Leverhulme Trust for cybercrime research in Armenia.
