Tim Fitzgerald is a Part-Time Faculty member and Professor of Clarinet at the University of North Georgia (UNG), specializing in extended techniques such as multiphonics, quarter tones, slap tonguing, and circular breathing. He actively performs with orchestras in Huntsville, Alabama, and Rome, Georgia, and has participated in International Clarinet Association ClarinetFests in Baton Rouge and Austin. As a guest artist and lecturer, he has collaborated with institutions like Duke University, University of Delaware, Kennesaw State University, and Tennessee Tech, co-authoring method books and commissioning works for clarinets and saxophone with the GremlinsDuo.
Tim received his B.M. in Music Performance from The University of Texas at Austin Butler School of Music in 2010, studying under Nathan Williams and Richard MacDowell, followed by an M.M. in Music Performance from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2012 under Eric Mandat. His research focuses on advanced clarinet pedagogy and performance, and he has contributed to publications including Gaudy Break’em and The Buddy System, which address technical exercises and collaborative duet warmups.
Tim is deeply committed to education, notably serving as the first guest artist for the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony in 2010. His personal interests include discussing his husband’s oil paintings, amateur gymnastics, and creative hobbies like playing Pokémon Go with his cat, Tom Jones.
