Tim Dorlach

Prof. Dr. Tim Dorlach is a Junior Professor of Global Nutrition and Health Policy at the University of Bayreuth (since 2021), affiliated with the Faculty of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition and Health. His academic journey includes postdoctoral research at institutions such as the University of Bremen's SOCIUM Research Center and the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA). He holds a PhD in Political Sciences and International Relations from Koç University (2019), an MA in Modern Turkish History from Boğaziçi University (2013), and a BA in Philosophy & Economics from the University of Bayreuth (2011).

His research focuses on the political economy of social policy, particularly in global nutrition governance, health regulation, and welfare state dynamics in middle-income countries. Key interests include analyzing how corporate actors, civil society, and policymakers interact in shaping public health policies such as food labeling, pharmaceutical regulation, and universal health coverage reforms. His work spans comparative studies of Turkey, Chile, Peru, and Latin America, with recent attention to pandemic-era social policy responses in the Global South.

Prof. Dorlach has contributed to debates on regulatory frameworks for toxic substances (e.g., glyphosate), breastfeeding policy advocacy in Kenya, and the political challenges of implementing nutrition warning labels. His scholarship bridges international political economy with health policy analysis, emphasizing institutional interactions and policy diffusion mechanisms.
