Professor Tim Cable is the Director of the Institute of Sport at Manchester Metropolitan University, leading transdisciplinary approaches to leverage sport for societal impact. He specializes in Cardiovascular Physiology, Thermoregulation, and Human Performance, with a focus on aging and elite athlete support. Previously, he held academic leadership roles at Liverpool John Moores University, the University of Birmingham, and Qatar’s Aspire Academy. He is a National Teaching Fellow and former President of the European College of Sport Science (2015–2017), having hosted their 2011 Congress in Liverpool. His research spans 230+ publications (H-index 54) and 50+ doctoral supervisees. Key projects include childhood obesity interventions, elite athlete performance optimization, and vascular health through exercise.
Research Interests: Tim’s work addresses exercise impacts on endothelial function, thermoregulation during aging, and applied sport physiology. He explores novel training methods to enhance vascular health and has pioneered studies on menopausal thermoregulation and hot flush mitigation through exercise.
Impact: His initiatives include successful childhood weight management programs in ethnically diverse communities and elite athlete support systems. Recent articles highlight innovations like pre-exercise chicken broth ingestion for performance gains and ethical debates on women’s sport eligibility criteria.
Awards:
- National Teaching Fellow
- Former President, European College of Sport Science
Advising & Grants: Supervised 51 doctoral candidates, many now internationally recognized researchers. His grants have supported interventions like the GOALS childhood obesity program and studies on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Institute of Sport’s transdisciplinary teams, integrating sport science, health, and technology to address global challenges through sport.
