Tim Bleeker is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, specializing in climate law and environmental liability. He holds additional roles at the Kooijmans Institute and the Research Program 'Law, Markets and Behavior'. He coordinates the International Business Law: Climate Change and Corporations master's program and teaches courses like Climate Change Liability and Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Climate Change.
Education: LLB (Hons.) from Utrecht Law College and LLM (Cum Laude) from Utrecht University. Professional experience includes roles at law firms De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek and Pels Rijcken, and academic work at Utrecht University's Department of Public Law and Philosophy of Law.
Research Focus: Climate transition plans under the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), corporate climate liability, directors' liability, and legal education innovation. As a VENI laureate, he investigates enforceability mechanisms for corporate emission reduction targets.
Awards: VENI grant from the Dutch Research Council (NWO Talent Program).
Media & Outreach: Regular contributor to media discussions on climate cases (e.g., Milieudefensie vs Shell, Urgenda vs Netherlands). Editor of Milieu & Recht and advisor to Stichting Recht voor Klimaat.
