Tianyu Shi is a Researcher at the Centre for the Study of Manuscript Cultures at the University of Hamburg. He is actively involved in the Cluster of Excellence 'Understanding Written Artefacts' (UWA) (2019–2025), serving as a Research Associate in project RFB12 (2021–2024), which examines the role of inscriptions in public life during 617–1276 CE in China.
His research interests span manuscript cultures, epigraphy, and cultural heritage, with a focus on the intersection of written artefacts and historical societal dynamics. He contributes to international initiatives such as DiPiKA – Digital Preservation of Kerala Archives, Rescuing the Books of al-Jazzar, and the Timbuktu Manuscript Training Project.
