Tiantian Zheng is a SUNY Distinguished Professor in the Sociology/Anthropology Department at SUNY Cortland. With a Ph.D. in Anthropology from Yale University, she has established herself as a leading scholar in gender studies, men's studies, and Chinese society through two decades of intensive longitudinal fieldwork in China.
Her research interests span multiple critical areas including human trafficking, prostitution studies, LGBTQ issues in China, intimate partner violence, and sexuality studies. Professor Zheng approaches these topics through a culturally nuanced anthropological lens that challenges Western stereotypes while documenting the lived experiences of marginalized populations.
Professor Zheng's publication record is impressive, comprising ten academic books, five edited journal issues, and over a hundred articles. Her recent work has focused on the plight of sex workers in China, human trafficking issues, and LGBTQ activism, demonstrating her continued engagement with pressing social issues. Her research shows consistent attention to how gender, power, and cultural context shape experiences of violence, sexuality, and social change.
Her significant contributions have been recognized through four national book awards:

Professor Zheng's expertise extends beyond academia into policy influence. She has testified before Congress, UNAIDS, and the United Nations on human trafficking and related issues. With over 100 papers delivered at national and international conferences, Professor Zheng maintains an active scholarly presence that bridges academic research, policy advocacy, and public education on critical issues affecting Chinese society and global human rights concerns.
