Dr. Tianduo Zhang serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mass Communication at North Carolina Central University (NCCU), joining the institution in 2019. She holds leadership roles as faculty advisor for the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) and co-lead of NCCU's Health Literacy and Communication Research core.
Her academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Mass Communication from the University of Florida and an M.A. in Public Relations from the University of Miami.
Dr. Zhang's research centers on mediated health communication within multicultural frameworks, with emphasis on:
- Culturally informed public health communication strategies
- Health literacy development and implementation science
- Persuasion resistance mechanisms in health messaging
- Racial minority interpretation of media health content
Complementing this, she investigates diversity and inclusion dynamics in strategic communication, specifically analyzing career choice development among HBCU communication students and corporate-HBCU partnership models.
Her funded research includes serving as co-Principal Investigator for the Office of Minority Health's Bull City Strong initiative and related subcontract projects. She actively collaborates with public relations agencies to enhance HBCU student career development through PRSSA mentorship.
Dr. Zhang founded the NCCU Health Communication Lab, which employs interdisciplinary humanistic and scientific methodologies to advance health communication research and practical implementation.
