Thushara Jayanth is a Senior Lecturer, Programme Lead for the BSc (Hons) Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship, and AESiP (Apprentice Educator and Supervisor in Practice) at the University of Sunderland's School of Nursing and Health Sciences. She joined the university in 2022, bringing over a decade of clinical experience in renal nursing, including roles in dialysis, NICU, and emergency care. Her academic qualifications include a PGCE in Health Professions and a Master's in Education (Health Professions). She teaches modules such as Holistic Nursing for Altered Physiology and supports nursing apprentices across London through regular academic and practice-based mentorship.
Her research focuses on the transition of nurses from clinical practice to academia and the care of renal patients, particularly vascular access management. She previously contributed to the Sunderland Diagnostic Interventional Nephrology Team, organizing workshops on vascular access care for home dialysis patients. Beyond academia, she remains involved in clinical practice and advocates for nurse education innovation.
Thushara’s professional background includes roles as a dialysis nurse in both private and NHS settings, emphasizing her commitment to bridging clinical expertise with educational practice. She actively supports nursing apprentices, ensuring they receive holistic academic and practical guidance to succeed in their careers.
