Dr. Thorsten Kaeseberg is a Visiting Professor in Practice at the LSE Law School. He concurrently serves as the head of the competition policy unit in the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, leading reforms in German competition law and representing Germany in EU negotiations like the Digital Markets Act and Foreign Subsidies Instrument. His expertise spans economic policy, digital transformation, and regulatory challenges in the digital era.
He holds a doctorate and education from the University of Bonn, Humboldt University Berlin, the London School of Economics, and New York University. His research focuses on antitrust, intellectual property, and cumulative innovation in the EU and US context, as evidenced by his 2012 book Intellectual Property, Antitrust and Cumulative Innovation in the EU and the US.
Prior roles include service in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition (2009–2011) and lecturing at Humboldt University Berlin. His work bridges legal, economic, and policy domains, emphasizing practical application in public service.
