Thomas Renard is a Lecturer in contemporary art history at the University of Nantes, Department of Art History and Archaeology. He concurrently serves as Head of the dual degree in Art History - Law and holds governance positions on the UFR HHAA management board and Humanities Pole council.
His research centers on 19th-20th century architecture and urban planning through the lens of identity politics and globalization under the Third Republic. Key investigations include international urban art movements around 1900, Italian architectural transitions at the century cusp, Tianjin's foreign concessions history, critical heritage studies applications to urban landscapes, Dante's cultural symbolism in Italian identity formation, and regional French international exhibitions.
Renard teaches specialized courses in art history (19th-20th centuries), architecture, urban history, and heritage studies. As dual degree program head, he directs interdisciplinary curriculum development between art history and legal studies while maintaining administrative responsibilities across university governance structures.
