Catharina Nolin is an Associate Professor in Art History at Stockholm University, specializing in garden and landscape architecture history. She directs the master’s programme in Critical Heritage Studies. Her research focuses on cultural heritage, urban green spaces, gender/class dynamics in urban design, and Swedish architectural history. Key interests include 20th-century landscape architecture, historical preservation, and transnational influences in design.
Education: Completed her doctoral dissertation Till stadsbornas nytta och förlustande (1999) on 19th-century Swedish public parks. Active in international academic circles, organizing sessions at Nordik, EAUH, and ACHS conferences since 2008. Research highlights include studies on women landscape architects, cemetery heritage, and national identity expressed through urban parks.
Publications span journals like Konsthistorisk Tidskrift and conference proceedings, emphasizing historiography of Swedish landscape architecture and gendered perspectives in design. Her work bridges art history with cultural and urban studies, addressing both tangible (parks, gardens) and intangible (design philosophies) heritage dimensions.
