Professor Thomas Phillips is a Professor of Nursing in Addiction and Director of the £11m NIHR Mental Health Research Group at the University of Hull's Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Research (CAMHR). His work focuses on improving care pathways for substance use and mental health disorders, with partnerships at King's College London, University of York, and NHS Trusts. He holds honorary roles at the National Addiction Centre (King's College London) and is Specialty Lead for Mental Health in the NIHR Yorkshire and Humber network.
Education: PhD (King's College London), MSc and PGDip (St George's, University of London). Research emphasizes alcohol dependence, emergency department interventions, and alcohol care teams (ACTs). His recent projects include ProACTIVE (evaluating ACT effectiveness) and CoACH (service evaluation for alcohol outreach).
Research Interests: Alcohol use disorders, clinical pathway optimization, telemedicine in addiction care, liver disease management, and evidence-based guidelines. He leads multi-disciplinary studies on alcohol withdrawal, hospital readmissions, and medication adherence.
Grants: NIHR Mental Health Research Group (£8.4M), ProACTIVE (£778K), CoACH (£145K), and others totaling over £10M. Awards include NIHR Fellowship and NICE advisory roles.
