معرفی
Thomas Parmentier is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Université de Montréal, within the Department of Clinical Sciences. He leads a laboratory focused on both fundamental and clinical neuroscience research, addressing neurological diseases in humans and companion animals. His work combines in vitro models using stem cells and brain organoids to study molecular and cellular mechanisms, alongside clinical studies in veterinary patients with neurological conditions like epilepsy. Key affiliations include the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vétérinaire (CHUV) and the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM)-Neurology.
Education: PhD in Neuroscience (2021, University of Guelph), Veterinary Residency in Neurology (2018, University of Guelph), and DVM (2014, École Nationale Vétérinaire de Nantes).
Research Interests: Modeling neurological diseases using patient-derived stem cells, biomarker discovery for epilepsy, and translational research linking in vitro findings to clinical applications in veterinary medicine. Current projects include studies on canine transposable elements in brain function and drug resistance in epilepsy, funded by CRSNG and the AKC Canine Health Foundation.
Advising: Currently recruiting a master’s student for projects integrating stem cell biology and clinical neurology. Grants include two CRSNG Discovery Grants (2024–2030) and AKC funding (2022–2026).
Labs & Teams: Laboratory integrates clinical and basic neuroscience research, with a focus on translating discoveries from organoid models to veterinary patients. Collaborations span molecular biology, electrophysiology, and clinical diagnostics.
