معرفی
Thomas O. Beebee is the Edwin Erle Sparks Professor of Comparative Literature and German at Pennsylvania State University. His work focuses on translation studies, world literature, and empirical analysis of literary reception. He holds a PhD (1984), MA (1979), and BA (1977) from the University of Michigan and Dartmouth College, respectively.
His research explores fictional representations of translation, cross-cultural literary exchanges, and the empirical study of reader responses. Notable projects include translating João Guimarães Rosa’s Tutaméia and analyzing Kafka’s influence in legal contexts through big data. He also investigates how literature shapes beliefs, such as through Amazon reviews of Left Behind.
Current projects include collaborating with a Finnegan’s Wake reading group to develop English neologisms for Tutaméia and applying scalar reading techniques to literary analysis.
Professional affiliations include editorship of German Literature as World Literature and maintenance of his personal website.
