Dr. Thomas Netticadan serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology at the University of Manitoba while holding multiple leadership roles including Team Leader at the Canadian Centre for Agri-food Research in Health and Medicine, Research Scientist at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and Principal Investigator of the Heart Failure Research Laboratory at the Morden Research and Development Centre.
His research centers on cardiac hypertrophy mechanisms in heart failure development, utilizing experimental rat models of pressure overload (aortic banding), volume overload (aortocaval shunt), and combined overload (coronary artery ligation). A key focus involves investigating nutraceuticals like resveratrol as antihypertrophic agents, with demonstrated success in preventing pressure overload-induced hypertrophy through nitric oxide synthase induction.
Dr. Netticadan leads the Heart Failure Research Laboratory where his team explores cellular pathways of pathological cardiac remodeling and identifies novel therapeutic targets for heart failure treatment, bridging agri-food research with cardiovascular medicine.
