Josée Lavoie is Professor in Community Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba's Max Rady College of Medicine, and past Director of Ongomiizwin Research Indigenous Institute of Health and Healing. Her research advances Indigenous health equity through policy analysis and health system transformation.
Research examines contracting mechanisms for Indigenous healthcare, anti-racism interventions, circumpolar health systems, and decolonizing methodologies. Key areas include Inuit mental health services, pandemic response in Indigenous communities, and cultural safety in primary care.
Recent publications explore Inuit health service utilization, implementation of Jordan's Principle for child health equity, Indigenous-informed research methodologies, and systemic racism in kidney health outcomes. Scholarship emphasizes community-based participatory approaches and policy reform.
Honors include Canadian Academy of Health Sciences Fellowship (2022) and Fulbright Arctic Initiative Scholarship (2018-2019). International collaborations span Arctic nations, Pacific Island states, Australia, and New Zealand.
