Medvetz's most significant contribution to the field is his 2012 book Think Tanks in America, published by the University of Chicago Press, which provides a comprehensive analysis of the historical development and institutional logic of American think tanks. The book has been praised for its theoretical sophistication and empirical depth, with reviewers noting its important contribution to understanding how think tanks have transformed government, the press, and the political role of intellectuals.
