Thomas Lufkin is Professor and Bayard & Virginia Clarkson Endowed Chair of Biology at Clarkson University's Lewis School of Health & Life Sciences. His research focuses on developmental genomics and regenerative medicine for intervertebral disc degeneration.
Education: Ph.D. Molecular Biology/Virology, Cornell University; A.B. Cell Biology, UC Berkeley. Courses: Immunology (BY419/519), Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine (BY488/588), Current Topics (BY476/576).
Research deciphers gene regulatory networks controlling vertebral column development, using mouse/zebrafish models and stem cell differentiation approaches. Work combines molecular genetics with genomic technologies (ChIP-Seq, RNA-Seq) to direct iPS cells for spinal therapies.
Patents cover genetic engineering methods and stem cell applications. Publications address disc degeneration mechanisms across species and biomaterial development.
Laboratory develops novel cell lines and single-cell phenotyping techniques for disc biology.
