Thomas Jankowski is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Gerontology and Political Science at Wayne State University. He currently serves as Interim Director of the Institute of Gerontology and Associate Director for Research at the Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute, both within the Division of Research and Innovation. Dr. Jankowski leads initiatives in aging services, Medicaid policy, and community-based research.

- Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Political Science, Wayne State University
His research focuses on aging services, healthcare policy for older adults, and political behavior in later life. Key areas include Medicaid expansion for memory care, combating social isolation, elder abuse prevention, and aging-in-place strategies. He bridges gerontology with public policy through program evaluations and community engagement.
Dr. Jankowski's recent publications emphasize systemic reforms for Alzheimer’s care, communication barriers in aging populations, and leveraging participatory needs assessments to shape local aging policies. His work spans interdisciplinary domains such as gerontology, political science, and social work, with a strong focus on practical applications.
Scientific awards and honors include:

Dr. Jankowski has secured significant funding, including a $7M partnership with the Michigan Developmental Disabilities Institute, and supports faculty research infrastructure and collaboration. He actively participates in statewide aging networks and advisory boards.
