Dr. Thomas J. Vicino is the Dean of the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University and a Professor of Urban Studies there. He previously served as Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Chair of Political Science at Northeastern University, as well as Director of the Master of Public Administration Program. An interdisciplinary scholar, his work focuses on urban political economy, metropolitan development, housing, and demographic analysis. Fluent in Portuguese, he leads global study programs like 'The Twenty-First Century City' in Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, and London. His leadership emphasizes interdisciplinary research, civic engagement, and inclusive excellence in higher education.
Education: PhD and MPP in Public Policy from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County; BSc in Political Science and Communication Studies from the University of Miami (cum laude, departmental honors). Awards include the Fulbright U.S. Scholar to Brazil (2014) and a bestselling book Cities and Suburbs (2010).
Research interests span urban policy, global migration, and sustainability. He serves on editorial boards for journals such as Journal of Race, Ethnicity and the City and chairs the Urban Affairs Association. His work bridges theory and practice, advocating for equitable urban development and public service innovation.
