Thomas Issekutz, MD, is a Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics, Medicine, Microbiology & Immunology, and Pathology at Dalhousie University, affiliated with the IWK Health Centre’s Division of Immunology. His research focuses on immune dysregulation in genetic disorders, T cell biology, and clinical applications of immunology. He has contributed to national guidelines on immunoglobulin therapy and immunodeficiency management. His work spans inborn errors of immunity, rheumatoid arthritis, and pediatric immunology.
Research interests include mechanisms of immune dysfunction in SCID, IRAK-4 deficiency, and Prolidase deficiency, as well as therapeutic interventions like high-dose IVIG. He has led studies on viral-induced immune responses and chemokine receptor roles in T cell trafficking. His clinical expertise includes managing complex immunodeficiency cases and guiding treatment strategies.
Publications emphasize translational research, such as exome sequencing applications, interferon pathway analysis in autoimmune diseases, and biomarkers for drug response in rheumatoid arthritis. His work bridges basic immunology with clinical practice, impacting diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for rare immune disorders.
