Frédéric Rieux-Laucat is a Research Professor and Team Leader at the Institut Imagine, focusing on the immunogenetics of pediatric autoimmune diseases. His work explores mechanisms underlying self-tolerance defects in primary immunodeficiencies and hyperimmune syndromes, with a focus on Autoimmune Lymphoproliferative Syndrome (ALPS), IPEX, and severe combined immunodeficiencies (SCID). Key research areas include FAS gene mutations, regulatory T cell dysfunction, STING pathway abnormalities, and cytokine dysregulation in autoimmune pathogenesis.
His studies integrate clinical samples from patients with rare immune disorders, alongside animal and cellular models. Recent work has identified genetic modifiers like DOCK11, SOCS1, and PTPN2 in autoimmune onset, and contributed to understanding type I interferon deficiencies in severe COVID-19. He has trained a multidisciplinary team of researchers, including post-doctoral fellows, PhD candidates, and clinical collaborators.
Key research themes include molecular mechanisms of lymphocyte apoptosis, regulatory T cell biology, and translational approaches to diagnose and treat immune dysregulation syndromes. His team’s discoveries bridge basic immunology to clinical applications, including biomarker development for primary immunodeficiencies and personalized therapies for autoimmune conditions.
