Beata Derfalvi

Beata Derfalvi is a Professor of Pediatrics and Head of the Division of Immunology at Dalhousie University, affiliated with the IWK Health Centre in Halifax. She holds dual appointments in the Departments of Pediatrics and Microbiology & Immunology. Dr. Derfalvi graduated from Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary, where she completed her MD, pediatric residency, clinical immunology/rheumatology fellowships, and a PhD in Immunology. She joined Dalhousie in 2013.

Her research focuses on immune dysregulation in inborn errors of immunity and autoimmune-inflammatory diseases like juvenile idiopathic arthritis. She leads the Canadian Immunization Research Network's vaccination studies in immunocompromised patients and co-chairs the Inborn Errors of Immunity Registry Steering Committee. She is a member of Immunity Canada and Immunodeficiency Canada.

Recent research highlights include genetic and microRNA studies in immune disorders, with publications in Nature Communications, Pediatric Rheumatology, and Journal of Immunology. Her work bridges clinical care and translational science, emphasizing rare disease mechanisms and patient registries.
