Thomas Hofmann is a full Professor and Director of the Institute of Toxicology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, where he leads research on DNA damage response and cancer biology. His work investigates how cells decide between DNA repair, senescence, or death following genomic stress, focusing on ATM/HIPK2 kinases and p53 pathways. With over 15 years of leadership at Heidelberg's DKFZ before joining Mainz, his group identifies cancer vulnerabilities through chromatin proteomics and molecular signaling analysis.
Research interests span:
- DNA damage-induced cell fate decisions
- Genome instability in cancer
- Checkpoint kinase regulation
- p53 mutation mechanisms
- Therapeutic targeting of repair pathways
Recent publications demonstrate his focus on chromatin dynamics (2023), mitotic translation control (2022), and epigenetic cancer subtyping (2018). His lab employs cutting-edge proteomic and genomic methods to uncover fundamental mechanisms of genomic integrity.
