Thomas D. O'Rourke

Thomas D. O'Rourke is the Thomas R. Briggs Professor in Engineering at Cornell University. A distinguished academic and professional, he is a member of the US National Academy of Engineering, Distinguished Member of ASCE, International Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Member of the Mexican Academy of Engineering, and Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

• Research Focus: Geotechnical engineering, earthquake engineering, underground construction technologies, and geographic information systems.
• Professional Leadership: Former President of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI), chair/membership in numerous professional society committees.
• Scientific Recognition: Recipient of the Stephen D. Bechtel Pipeline Engineering Award, Ralph B. Peck Award, and George W. Housner Medal. Delivered the 2009 Rankine and 2016 Terzaghi Lectures.
