Thomas Chaillou is a Senior Lecturer in Sports Physiology at Örebro University, within the School of Health Sciences and Department of Health Sciences. He holds a PhD from the University of Grenoble (2011), followed by postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Kentucky (2012–2014) and Karolinska Institutet (2014–2016). His research focuses on muscle biology under physiological (exercise, aging, thermal stress) and pathological conditions (inflammation), recovery strategies in sports, and exercise-induced physiological adaptations.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on exercise physiology, sports performance, and research methods in Sports Science. He supervises Bachelor and Master’s students in multiple programs.
Key research projects include investigating thermal stress effects on muscle function, cancer-related muscle weakness, and physiological adaptations during extreme endurance events. He leads the Exercise Physiology and Sport Medicine (EPSM) research group.
His recent publications (2020–2025) address topics such as cold-water immersion effects, carbohydrate restriction in exercise recovery, and mitochondrial regulators of muscle function. Active projects include studies on ultrarunning adaptations and the role of inflammation in muscle mass regulation.
