Dr. Therese Shelton is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Southwestern University, part of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. She holds a PhD and MS from Clemson University (1987) and a BS from Texas A&M University (1982). Her research focuses on mathematical modeling using differential equations, technology in education, and assessment methodologies.
Key affiliations include the MAA (serving on multiple committees and congress), AWM, SIAM, and leadership roles in SIMIODE. She has received NSF funding for initiatives promoting modeling in differential equations education and earned the Ron Barnes Distinguished Service to Students Award (2015) and MAA's Distinguished Service to the Section Award (2023).
Her recent work includes publications on cholera modeling, pharmacokinetics, and social justice applications of statistics. She advises undergraduate research projects and leads initiatives to improve calculus pedagogy and student success.
