Christina Alvey is an Associate Professor of Mathematics and Chair of the Division of Mathematics and Information Technology at Mount Saint Mary College (MSMC), affiliated with the School of Arts, Sciences, and Education. She joined MSMC in 2015 and holds a PhD in Mathematics from Purdue University and a BS in Mathematics and Actuarial Science from North Central College. Her research focuses on mathematical biology, epidemiology, differential equations, and mathematics education. She is actively involved in professional organizations such as the MAA, SMB, SIAM, and AWM.
Alvey teaches a wide range of courses, including Calculus, Differential Equations, Mathematical Biology, Cryptography, and Computer Literacy. She emphasizes student engagement and accessibility, maintaining open office hours for academic and personal mentorship. Her work bridges theoretical mathematics with practical educational strategies, particularly in pre-service teacher training and STEM pedagogy.
Her publications include a 2024 textbook on mathematical biology and peer-reviewed articles on epidemiological modeling and mathematics education. Alvey’s contributions span both biological modeling (e.g., HIV/HSV-2 interaction studies) and educational research (e.g., algebraic reasoning in teacher training). She advocates for student-driven learning and maintains an approachable, collaborative teaching style.
