Therese Nilsson is a Professor at the Department of Economics and the Centre for Economic Demography at Lund University, and a member of the LU Profile Area: Proactive Ageing. Her research focuses on the intersection of health and education economics, cultural/institutional economics, and the impacts of globalization on cultural attitudes. She leads distance learning initiatives at LUSEM, supervising over 70 theses in development and health economics.
Her work addresses topics such as long-term effects of early health investments (e.g., antenatal care), economic consequences of historical events like the Spanish flu, and educational policies. She actively engages in media outreach and policy-related discussions.
Key research contributions include studies on instructional time in primary schools, globalization’s institutional impacts, and socioeconomic inequalities. Awards include the 2021 PAA Best Poster Award. She collaborates internationally and participates in projects addressing school funding, dementia risk, and migrant integration.
