Jonas Helgertz is a Professor of Economic History and Senior Lecturer at Lund University's Department of Economic History and the Centre for Economic Demography. He holds the role of Vice Dean for Research at LUSEM. His research focuses on immigrant integration, health outcomes linked to early life conditions, and historical Swedish socio-economic dynamics. He has supervised PhD students including Marcos Castillo and contributed to projects like the 'Swedes in America' study.
Research interests span migration patterns, historical demography, and intergenerational transmission of status. He has authored over 50 publications, including work on migrant networks in the U.S., socioeconomic gradients in mortality, and historical record linkage methodologies.
Awards include the Founder's Prize (2024), American Sociological Association Best Publication Award (2023), and a distinguished contribution to population scholarship (2021). He manages the Swedish Interdisciplinary Panels infrastructure and collaborates internationally on projects analyzing migration, health, and urban demographics.
