Theodor Meron is a Visiting Professor at Trinity College, University of Oxford, and an Academic Affiliate of the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights. He previously served as a Judge of the Appeals Chambers of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), including four terms as ICTY President. He currently serves his second term as President of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT) under the United Nations.
His research focuses on international humanitarian law, human rights, and international criminal law, with notable contributions through over a dozen books—including works linking international law to themes in Shakespeare—and 100+ scholarly articles. He is a leading figure in shaping legal frameworks for international criminal tribunals.
Dr. Meron holds affiliations with Mansfield College and the Public International Law Research Group. His honors include the Hudson Medal, Haskins Prize, and prestigious French national orders. He previously served as Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of International Law and Honorary President of the American Society of International Law.
