Dr. Ebba Lekvall is a Lecturer in Law at the University of Essex's Essex Law School and a member of the Human Rights Centre. She holds a PhD (2021) and LLM (2014) from University of Essex, an LLB from University of Oxford (2013), and a BA from the American University of Paris (2010). Her research focuses on reparation mechanisms in transitional justice, international criminal law, and indigenous rights, with a particular emphasis on colonial abuses and legal accountability. She has held prior academic roles at Birmingham City University and as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Essex.
Her professional experience includes roles at the Swedish Migration Agency, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), and the International Criminal Court (ICC). She is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy since 2019.
Research interests span reparation standards in international law, indigenous rights in Scandinavia, and institutional accountability for historical wrongs. She currently teaches International Criminal Law, Human Rights Law, and Transitional Justice, and supervises PhD candidates like Kani Areef in Human Rights studies.
