معرفی
Terry Watnick is the Joan B. and John H. Sadler, MD Professor of Nephrology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She holds her primary appointment in the Department of Medicine and directs an inherited renal disease clinic, serving as site principal investigator for ADPKD clinical trials. Her research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of cystic kidney diseases, particularly ADPKD, and its vascular complications.
- Brown University (Magna Cum Laude), Sc.B. (1981)
- Yale University School of Medicine, M.D. (1987)
- Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital (1988-1990)
- Fellowship in Nephrology at Johns Hopkins Hospital (1995)
Dr. Watnick's research investigates the vascular and lymphatic phenotypes linked to PKD1/2 mutations using mouse models and cell-based systems. Her lab explores genotype-phenotype correlations in ADPKD patients with aneurysms and employs Drosophila melanogaster to study ciliary trafficking of Polycystin-2. These studies have implications for understanding disease progression and developing targeted therapies.
The articles she co-authored highlight advancements in ADPKD diagnostics, vascular pathology, and molecular signaling. Her work integrates genetic, developmental, and translational approaches, emphasizing the role of TGF-beta and ciliary pathways in disease mechanisms.
- NIH/NIDDK-funded Maryland PKD Research and Translation Core Center Principal Investigator
- Co-PI of the national PKD RTCC coordinating site
- Norman S. Coplon Grant Award, Lillian Jean Kaplan International Prize
- Andreoli Lectureship (2023)
Dr. Watnick has secured grants such as the NIH Physician Scientist Award and National Research Service Award. She leads the Baltimore PKD Research and Clinical Core Center, supporting international researchers through specialized cores for antibody validation, mouse models, cell culture, and clinical trials. Her clinical work involves multicenter ADPKD studies.
