Terry M. Beitner is a part-time Professor at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Law, specializing in international criminal law. He holds a B.Sc. in Criminology from the University of Montreal, an LL.B. from the Common Law Section of the University of Ottawa, and an LL.L. from the Civil Law Section of the University of Ottawa.

Professor Beitner has extensive experience in international criminal law, particularly in the investigation and prosecution of crimes against humanity, war crimes, and genocide. From 2000 to 2024, he served as Director and General Counsel at the Department of Justice Canada’s Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Section, leading multidisciplinary teams and collaborating with international tribunals and states. His current research explores the application of artificial intelligence tools in legal practice, with a focus on enhancing the investigation of core international crimes. He has also contributed to legal education as a lecturer at Canadian law schools and through the International Humanitarian Law Summer Course sponsored by the Canadian Red Cross and the Human Rights Research and Education Centre at the University of Ottawa.
