Associate Professor Teresa Davis holds a position in the Department of Marketing at the University of Sydney Business School. She is a member of the Charles Perkins Centre and co-leads the 'Businesses, Markets and the Social Context of Health' research node. Her research focuses on children as consumers, particularly the impact of digital food marketing, and cultural transitions in consumption patterns among families and migrant groups.
Dr. Davis has a PhD from the University of Wollongong (UOW), complemented by a BCom and MBA from Madras. Her work has been integrated into Western Australian school curricula and has influenced World Health Organization guidelines. She has published extensively in journals like European Journal of Marketing and Marketing Theory, and her research has been cited in parliamentary inquiries on child advertising.
Her research interests include the socio-historical analysis of family consumption, food advertising, and the role of digital platforms in shaping youth behavior. She has collaborated internationally, including with institutions such as the University of Edinburgh and Lancaster University, on grants like the Leverhulme International Research Network.
Professionally, Davis has supervised multiple PhD students and teaches courses in consumer behavior and social marketing. She serves on editorial boards for journals like Journal of Consumer Behaviour and co-edits special issues on families and food systems.
Awards include the Young Consumers Outstanding Paper Award (2015). Her advocacy spans policy engagement, including reviewing grants for the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research and judging ethical advertising initiatives like the Cancer Council's 'Name and Shame Awards.'
