Tennille Foust was the Sheila C. Johnson Endowed Associate Professor of Theatre at Bennett College, serving on faculty from 2007 until her passing in 2022. She held a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Nevada Las Vegas and a Professional Theatre degree from North Carolina A&T State University. Her expertise spanned acting, directing, and stage management, with a focus on revitalizing Black history through African American theater productions such as The Color Purple and Crowns. Beyond teaching, she directed Bennett’s ceremonies and events, chaired committees like the Tenure & Promotion Committee, and co-founded the Greater Greensboro Theatre Consortium to advance equity in theater.
Her legacy includes a $20,000 National Endowment for the Arts grant supporting the Amplify Black Voices Festival, which showcased African-American cultural narratives. Foust was also actively involved in campus organizations like Alpha Psi Omega and advocated for student performers through her mentorship of 'Bennett Boys' ensembles. Her roles in faculty governance, including service as Faculty Senator and Parliamentarian, reflected her commitment to institutional welfare.
