Teague von Bohlen serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Colorado Denver's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He teaches Creative Writing courses at all levels including fiction workshops, special topics, narrative form and theory, as well as journalism-related courses such as Magazine Writing and Writing for Print Media. Bohlen also serves as Faculty Advisor for The Sentry, the student newspaper, and as one of the Fiction Editors for the national literary magazine Copper Nickel.
Bohlen's research interests center on creative writing with specializations in fiction, flash fiction, and literary journalism. His work explores narrative techniques, character development, and contemporary American storytelling. He has developed innovative approaches to teaching student success through his textbook The Snarktastic Guide to Student Success and maintains an active creative practice that informs his pedagogy. As National Chair for Literary Magazines for the College Media Association, he contributes to the broader literary community beyond the classroom.
His creative output shows consistent engagement with American literary traditions while exploring contemporary forms, particularly evident in his award-winning novel The Pull of the Earth (2007 Colorado Book Award) and his flash fiction collection Flatland (2020 Colorado Book Award nominee). His work appears in respected literary journals including South Dakota Review, Waccamaw, Flash Fiction Magazine, Saranac Review, and Barely South, demonstrating sustained contribution to the field.
