Taylor Morphett

Taylor Morphett is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC), affiliated with the Faculty of Indigenous Studies, Social Sciences and Humanities. She holds a PhD from Simon Fraser University. Her research focuses on the histories and pedagogies of writing in relation to literary teaching, particularly examining the formation of English departments in colonial English-speaking Canada. She employs interdisciplinary methods spanning literary, composition, and educational studies to critique assumptions about post-secondary writing instruction.

Her work analyzes how categories like 'literature' were shaped by English vernacular writing practices and their impact on university writing pedagogies. She co-edits Discourse and Writing/Rédactologie and serves on the executive of the Canadian Association for the Study of Discourse and Writing (CASDW). She is actively involved in graduate supervision and media engagement on relevant topics.
