Dr Tawanda Nyawasha is a Lecturer in Sociology at the School of Applied Social and Policy Sciences, Ulster University, Belfast. He joined in February 2022 after serving as a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Limpopo, South Africa. He holds a PhD in Political Sociology from the University of Hong Kong (2017), with a focus on popular politics, social movements, and citizenship struggles in South Africa. His research interests include public social movements, human subjectivity, agonism, and modern politics, with a comparative and ethnographic approach. He teaches modules such as Quantitative Research Methods, Classical Sociological Theory, and Sociology of Health and Illness.
His work has been funded by the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) and the American Political Science Association (APSA). He is affiliated with the Institute for Research in Social Sciences, Ulster University. Tawanda emphasizes theoretical innovation and methodological creativity in his scholarship.
