Tim Pringle is an Associate Professor (Reader) in the Department of Development Studies at SOAS University of London. He holds a BA from the University of Leeds and a PhD from the University of Warwick. His research focuses on labour movements, social justice, and development in China and transitional economies. He has supervised four PhD students exploring topics like the Belt and Road Initiative in Cambodia, South Korean aid practices, tourism in The Gambia, and legal professionalism in Hong Kong.
Pringle’s work critically examines state-labour relations in authoritarian contexts, particularly China’s evolving labour policies and the challenges facing trade unions. He has published extensively on topics ranging from academic freedom in Chinese universities to the suppression of Hong Kong’s trade unions.
